Prithvi -II successfully test-fired from ITR Published Date : 25-Aug-2012 08:15:35, 6 Views.      Balasore (Odisha), Aug 25 (PTI) India's nuclear-capable Prithvi-II ballistic missile with a strike range of 350 km was today successfully test-fired from the Integrated Test Range near here as part of user trial by the army. "The flight test of the surface-to-surface missile was conducted around 1100 hrs from a mobile launcher from ITR's launch complex-III at Chandipur," defence sources said. Describing the trial of the indigenously developed strategic missile as "fully successful", ITR Director MVKV Prasad said, "It was a perfect launch. All the mission objectives were accomplished during the trial."  Prithvi is the first ballistic missile developed under the country's prestigious Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme and has the capability to carry 500 kg of both nuclear and conventional warheads with a strike range of 350 km. The missile uses advanced inertial guidance system with manoeuvring trajectory. The test-fire of the sophisticated short-range ballistic missile, which has already been inducted into the armed forces, was a user's trial by the army and monitored by scientists of Defence Research and Development Organisation. The sleek missile is handled by the strategic force command (SFC), they said, adding the trial was conducted to gauge the effectiveness of the weapon in a real time situation. "The whole exercise was aimed at studying the control and guidance system of the missile besides providing training to the Army, which happens to be the user," said an official. The state-of-the-art missile is 9 metre-long and is one metre in diameter with liquid propulsion twin engine. A defence scientist associated with the trial said radars and electro optical systems located along the coast tracked and monitored all the parameters of the missile throughout the flight path. Prithvi-II has been successfully flight tested several times as part of the training exercise and?today?s launch again proved its reliability and accuracy, he said. A twin user trial of Prithvi-II missiles planned on December 21, 2011 from ITR had to be deferred due to a technical snag, sources said. Its trial was, however, a complete success on September 26, 2011 as the missile reached the predefined target in Bay of Bengal with a very high accuracy of better than 10 meters, they said.

VAL unsure on operation of its refinery Published Date : 25-Aug-2012 08:00:01, 4 Views.      Bhubaneswar, Aug 24 (PTI) Uncertainty prevails over operation of Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL)'s refinery in Odisha's Kalahandi (rpt Kalahandi) district as it is facing 'acute scarcity' of bauxite, a major raw material. "Yes, we are running out of raw material. The company is now unable to arrange bauxite from other states due to certain logistic problems," VAL's managing director S K Rungta told reporters after meeting Chief Secretary B K Patnaik here. Stating that the factory was established in bauxite- rich Kalahandi (rpt Kalahandi) district because of its abundance, Rungta said VAL has not been able to get any bauxite from Odisha. The London-based Vedanta Resources operating a 1 mtpa capacity refinery plant at Lanjigarh since August 2007, required at least 10,000 tonne of bauxite daily. "Though the state government committed to provide 150 millon tonne of bauxite for VAL's plant, not a gram was given to us during the last five years," a senior official of the company said. "We have so far run the refinery by arranging bauxite from Jharkhand, Chhattishgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. But, now it is not possible to get more raw material from other states," VAL's Chief Operating Officer Mukesh Kumar told PTI over phone from Lanjigarh. Stating that there was no stock of bauxite at the plant, Kumar said "Though it is painful to stop operation, we do not know what will happen the next day."  Though the company applied for 26 bauxite reserves in the state, nothing was finalised due to different reasons, he said.  So far the company has invested Rs 9,000 crore in the project which provided employment to 7,000 people including direct jobs to 3,000, Kumar said. "We have set up the plant at a place where about 800 million tonne of bauxite is reserved. But, unfortunately, not a gram is available for VAL," Kumar said. ?While the supply from Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh has been hit due to regulatory hurdles, sources said the demand in the export market has made sourcing from Gujarat difficult for VAL. Since the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation has not floated tender for sale of bauxite in the recent past, VAL was unable to get the raw material from there, they said.

Naveen seeks fertiliser price revision, demands timely supply Published Date : 25-Aug-2012 07:57:37, 4 Views.      Bhubaneswar, Aug 24 (PTI) Seeking a downward revision in the prices of chemical fertilisers, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said the Centre's policies would have adverse impact on foodgrain production in the state. "It is matter of serious concern that instead of encouraging farmers, the recent policies of the government of India on pricing and supply of chemical fertilisers have caused a great deal of imbalance leading to widespread resentment," Patnaik said in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Expressing fear that the present policies would have adverse impact on the foodgrain production, Patnaik said adequate and balanced use of fertiliser by farmers would go a long way in increasing the productivity of foodgrain. Claiming that Odisha had been making significant contribution to the food security of the nation, the chief minister pointed out that except urea, the prices of other major fertilisers like Di Ammonium Phosphate (DAP), Muriate of Potash (MOP) and Complex fertilisers have increased by more than 100 per cent since April 1, 2011. "As a result, our small and marginal farmers are unable to afford the balanced use of chemical fertilisers," Patnaik wrote in the letter adding that even Urea was not being supplied to Odisha in adequate quantities despite specific allocations by the Centre for kharif-2012. Though the Ministry of Chemical and Fertiliser committed to supply 4.5 lakh MT Urea during April-September, 2012, actual supply till August 23, 2012 was only 1.99 lakh MT, which was less than half of what was promised to the state, Patnaik said. As per the 'supply plan' of the Centre, 71,000 mt of imported urea was to be supplied to the state during August, 2012, Patnaik said. But the ship carrying imported Urea for the state was still in the high seas. "Unless supplied on time, this will have serious consequences for the farmers of Odisha," he said. Seeking Prime Minister's intervention into the mater to salvage the situation, Patnaik said the state's minimum expectation would be to receive the full quota of Urea as per the central allocation by end of September, of which at least one lakh MT may be supplied within the next one week. "I would also urge you to seriously consider a downward revision in the prices of chemical fertilisers to safeguard the interest of the farming community," he said. Odisha was among the seven states currently implementing the scheme "bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India (BGREI)".

Sambalpur (Odisha), Aug 24 (PTI) Thirteen people were killed and six others critically injured when a train rammed into a vehicle at an unmanned railway crossing in Sambalpur district today. The mishap took place at Khairpali between Sambalpur City and Maneswar railway stations when the vehicle was hit by Rourkela-Bhubaneswar Inter-City Express while it was trying to cross the track at an unmanned level crossing, an East Coast Railway (ECoR) official said. While 12 people died on the spot, another succumbed to injury at hospital, Sambalpur Sub-Collector Rainu Singh said, adding that six injured persons were admitted to the district headquarter hospital here. The vehicle was carrying women agricultural labourers from Analapalli to Sindurpanka. The deceased were 12 women labourers and driver of the vehicle. The impact of the collision was severe and the vehicle was dragged quite a distance on the track leaving most of the bodies dismembered, eyewitnesses said. After the track was cleared, the train left for its destination, railway officials said.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 23 (PTI) The Odisha government today directed to the police, vigilance department and district administrations to intensify raids on unscrupulous traders indulging in hoarding and black marketing of fertiliser, and said at least three such persons had been arrested so far. Besides the three, criminal cases were initiated against seven other traders for indulging in black marketing of fertiliser during the ongoing kharif season, official sources said. Agriculture Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said, so far raids had been conducted on 532 wholesale and 1340 retail points and the state government has cancelled license of 32 dealers on charge of trading fertiliser in irregular manner. Admitting that some traders were taking advantage of the situation created due to unusual rainfall across the state, Mishra said district collectors were asked to ensure that farmers get fertiliser at the appropriate price and time. Following sufficient rainfall during first and second week of August, demand for fertiliser increased as cultivation had earlier been slow due to inadequate rainfall in June and July, he said. Stating that cultivation was in full swing now, he said the state had already taken up the matter relating to scarcity of fertiliser with the Centre. "I have met the Union Agriculture Minister and Union Fertiliser Minister seeking their help to provide us requisite fertiliser soon," he said.

असम सुलग रहा है। साथ ही सुलग रही है एक और बंटवारे की आग। यह इस बात का प्रमाण है कि हमने अपने इतिहास और उसकी गलतियों से कुछ नहीं सीखा। यह इस बात का भी प्रमाण है कि सत्ता के लालच में सन १९४७ के द्विराष्ट्रवाद के सिद्धांत ने जिन लोगों को इस देश की सत्ता के शिखर पर पहुंचाया, उन लोगों ने अल्पसंख्यक तुष्टीकरण को ही अपनी सत्ता का आधार बनाया। परिणाम सामने है।
लगातार अल्पसंख्यक वोटों के लालच में की गई बंगलादेशी घुसपैठ की अनदेखी ने असम ही नहीं, सारे पूर्वोत्तर भारत की जनसंख्या का संतुलन ही बिगाड़ दिया है। बहुसंख्यक हिन्दू अब अनेक जिलों में अल्पसंख्यक हो गए हैं, और जनसंख्या के इस आक्रमण के सूत्रधार बंगलादेशी घुसपैठिये उनकी भूमि पर कब्जा कर रहे हैं, उनकी धार्मिक परम्पराओं को बाधित कर रहे हैं, और उनके प्राकृतिक स्रोतों का जम कर दोहन कर रहे हैं। स्थितियां इतनी खराब हो गई हैं कि अब किसी बोडो हिन्दू युवती से विवाह कर लेने पर अल्पसंख्यक भी बोडो कहलाने का हक सुप्रीम कोर्ट तक लड़कर मांग रहे है। असम के आध्यात्मिक आन्दोलन का शीर्ष माने जाने वाले सत्रों (मठों) की सैकड़ों एकड़ भूमि पर भी अल्पसंख्यक घुसपैठियों ने कब्जा कर लिया है।
जैसा कि प्रचारित किया जा रहा है, असम की हिंसा मात्र दो व्यक्तियों की हत्या का परिणाम नहीं है। सन २००८ में भी उदालगुड़ी में बोडो हिन्दुओं का इन घुसपैठियों के हाथों एक तरफा नरसंहार हुआ था। ऐसा ही बंगलादेशी घुसपैठियों ने सन २०११ में बंगाल के देगंगा में किया, जहॉं हिन्दुओं को पारंपरिक दुर्गापूजा करने की कीमत अपने प्राण देकर चुकानी पड़ी। राज्य और केंद्र में बैठी सरकारों को आज भी ये स्वीकारने का साहस नहीं है की ये हिंसा घुसपैठ का परिणाम है।
वनवासी कल्याण आश्रम लगभग ४० वर्षों से पूर्वोत्तर की जनजातियों में सतत कार्य कर रहा है, जहॉं उसके २५० पूर्णकालिक कार्यकर्ता अपना समय राष्ट्रसेवा में दे रहे हैं। संगठन के, उस क्षेत्र में ३२ छात्रावास और १०० से अधिक विद्यालय हैं। पूरे देश में भी पूर्वोत्तर के छात्रों के लिए वनवासी कल्याण आश्रम छात्रावास संचालित करता है। इस नाते संगठन का यह नैतिक दायित्व है की असम की जनजातियों पर आए इस भीषण संकट में वह उनकी आवाज शेष राष्ट्र तक पहुंचाए। संगठन की ओर से लगभग १७०० पीड़ित परिवारों में आवश्यक सामग्री का वितरण किया जा रहा है। इसके अतिरिक्त ग्राम स्तर पर भी सुरक्षा के प्रबंध करने के लिए जनजातियों को प्रेरणा देने का काम वनवासी कल्याण आश्रम कर रहा है। शीघ्र ही संगठन के नेतृत्व में जनजातीय समाज के लोग असम के सभी जिलाधीशों को अपनी मांगों का ज्ञापन सौंपेंगे।
वनवासी कल्याण आश्रम पाकिस्तान द्वारा फैलाई जा रही अफवाहों की घोर भर्त्सना करता है, जिनके कारण देश के विकास में अपना योगदान दे रहे पूर्वोत्तर के लोग अपने राज्यों की ओर पलायन कर रहे हैं। संगठन केंद्र और राज्य सरकारों से मांग करता है कि वह इस पूरी समस्या को राष्ट्र के एक और विभाजन के षड्यंत्र के रूप में पहचाने और बंगलादेशी घुसपैठ को रोकने, और घुसपैठियों को पहचान कर देश से बाहर निकालने के लिए व्यवहारिक होकर कार्ययोजना देश के सामने रखे। आज पूर्वोत्तर भारत में ऐसे १७ से अधिक अल्पसंख्यक संगठन हैं जो इन घुसपैठियों के जरिये हिंसा फैलाने का काम कर रहे हैं। इन सभी पर शीघ्र ही प्रतिबन्ध लगाया जाना चाहिए और घुसपैठयों को फर्जी पहचान पत्र और अन्य दस्तावेज बनाकर देने वाले तत्वों पर भी कठोर कार्यवाही होनी चाहिए। वनवासी कल्याण आश्रम समूचे राष्ट्र से यह आह्वान करता है की भारत के एक और विभाजन की इस साजिश के विरुद्ध वह एकजुट होकर खड़ा हो, और इसे विफल करने में अपना योगदान

काश्मीर सुरक्षा मंच ओडिशा की तरफ से एक विशाल धरना का आयोजन किया गया। जम्मू काश्मीर समस्या एवं इसके समाधान के लिए भारत सरकार द्वारा दिलीप पदगांवकर के नेतृत्व में एक तीन सदस्यीय कमेटी को वहां भेजा गया था। इस कमेटी द्वारा दिए गए विवरण सभी को आश्चर्यचकित कर दिया है। इस कमेटी द्वारा जम्मू काश्मीर से भारतीय सेना को वापस लाने, सुरक्षा वाहिनी के विशेष अधिकार को खत्म करने, आतंकवादियों से बातचीत करने, नियंत्रण रेखा पर ढिलाई देने जैसे प्रसंग उठाया गया है। पूरे देश में इस रिपोर्ट का विरोध किया जा रहा है। इसी आधार पर भुवनेश्वर में भी आज काश्मीर सुरक्षा मंच ओडिशा द्वारा राजभवन के सामने धरना प्रदर्शन किया गया है। मंच के आवाहक डॉ जतीन महान्ति के नेतृत्व में एक प्रतिनिधि दल राजभवन जाकर राष्ट्रपति के उद्देश्य में एक स्मारक पत्र प्रदान किया। सुकान्त पाणीग्राही के संयोजन में आयोजित इस गणधरना में अशोक कुमार साहू ने काश्मीर समस्या पर विस्तार से चर्चा की।

समाज सुधारक स्वामी लक्ष्मणानंद सरस्वती जी के हत्यारों के खिलाफ नए सिरे से जांच के लिए स्वामी लक्ष्मणानंद सरस्वती श्रद्धांजलि समिति द्वारा मांग कर राजभवन के सामने धरना दिया गया है। समिति के राज्य संपादक डॉ लक्ष्मीकान्त दास के अध्यक्षता में आयोजित इस सभा में वक्ताओं ने कहा कि 2008 अगस्त 23 तारीख के दिन कंधमाल के जलेसपटा आश्रम में स्वामी लक्ष्मणानंद एवं उनके चार सहयोगियों की हत्या की गई। सरकार द्वारा कुछ लोगों को गिरफ्तार भी किया गया। लेकिन मुख्य आरोपी एवं षडयंत्रकारियों को पकड़ने के लिए सरकार द्वारा कोई कदम नहींउठाया गया। इसी कारण समिति की तरफ से 22 तारीख से एक सप्ताह तक सभी जिला महकमा में धरना देने के साथ साथ जिलाधीशों के जरिए राज्यपाल को स्मारक पत्र दिया गया है। गणधरना के अंतिम दिवस पर प्रो.डॉ रत्नाकर चइनी एवं स्वामी प्राणरूपा नंद सरस्वती के नेतृत्व में धरना के बाद राज्यपाल को एक ज्ञापन दिया गया है। जस्टिस शरत चन्द्र महापात्र के निधन के बाद जांच कमीशन के नए जांच अधिकारी की नियुक्ति की भी मांग की गई है।

मैसूर। राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ [आरएसएस] के पूर्व सरसंघचालक केएस सुदर्शन शुक्रवार सुबह पांच बजे से लापता हो गए हैं। हालांकि बाद में वह सकुशल मिल गए हैं। वह यहा सुबह पाच बजे घर से टहलने के लिए निकले थे। उसके बाद से उनका पता नहीं था। बताया जाता है कि सुदर्शन अपने रिश्तेदार के घर ठहरे थे। काफी देर तक उनके नहीं लौटने पर रिश्तेदारों ने पुलिस में शिकायत दर्ज कराई है। पुलिस उन्हें ढूंढ़ रही थी।

इस बीच, संघ के प्रवक्ता राम माधव ने सुदर्शन की गुमशुदगी की पुष्टि करते हुए कहा कि सुदर्शन का सुबह से पता नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा कि कई बार सुदर्शन बिना सुरक्षा के भी मॉर्निग वॉक पर निकल जाते हैं, लेकिन दो घटे में टहलकर वापस आ जाते हैं। लेकिन आज वह 11 बजे तक नहीं लौटे हैं। हालांकि बाद में सुदर्शन सकुशल वापस लौट आए हैं।के पूर्व सरसंघचालक
